Maureen A. Ryu DPT, Owner/Consultant
Maureen Ryu is a native of Northern Virginia. She grew
up in Fairfax County and received her Physical Therapy Assistant degree in
1983. Over the next ten years, Maureen continued to expand her physical therapy
skills in a variety of patient care settings, while at the same time increasing
her academic knowledge. In 1996, Maureen graduated from Shenandoah University with
a Master of Physical Therapy degree and was honored with the K. Madison Smith
award for clinical excellence.
After graduating from SU, Maureen specialized in orthopedic
and sports medicine. She continued her career as the director of rehabilitation
for a company in New Jersey, providing services to the employees of contracting
companies. Although she enjoyed her work, she missed the Northern Virginia
area, so Maureen returned in 1998 and joined a growing orthopedic group. Her
role included assisting in the companies’ expansion, managing personnel, and
providing care to orthopedic, sports medicine and post surgical patients.
Over the next several years, Maureen expanded her
expertise in the area of biomechanical dysfunctions in relation to the spine,
pelvic girdle, and foot. While
continuing her service with the orthopedic group, she also owned and operated a
custom orthotics company to assist in addressing biomechanical issues.
Maureen relocated to Chesapeake Virginia in 2003, and
supervised the physical therapy department for a surgical orthopedic group.
During this time, she returned to academics and earned her Doctor of Physical
Therapy degree form Shenandoah University in 2004.
Since retiring from formal employment in 2005,
Maureen has remained active in the physical therapy community, providing PRN
and private services.
